Our flock is growing, and migrating!

We love animals, especially our wonderful parrots. We love to spoil them with parrot toys, great parrot food and of course lots of love and attention. We are extremely happy to finally announce that we are growing our flock here at Hello, Bird! However, it’s not with more parrots but humans. We’ve been keeping this news quiet except with family and close friends, but we are very excited to finally tell everyone who visits our store that my wife is pregnant with twin girls due sometime in March. We are incredibly excited by the news and of course have to tell everyone.

As a result of this major life change, we have decided to relocate back to our roots in Southern California. How will this affect the Hello, Bird store? Not one bit. We are only an online store and our shipments are managed from our distribution center so moving our home base won’t affect anything at all.

If anyone has had parrots before having children, we’d love to get some feedback! Some things we’re concerned with are having our birds’ sleep disrupted by a crying baby and how we’ll have less time to give attention to the birds for a while until we get settled in to the new situation. There are probably even more things we haven’t thought of yet.

Been there…in fact Rich and I joke we had Sam so there would be someone to care for the birds after we were gone from this earth. When Sam was born we only had the two greys, but the late hours didn’t seem to bother them. At that time they had their own room, next to ours, separated by a sliding glass door. They were covered at night. Sam is 8 now, and Zeke calls for him during the day when he’s at school. I don’t know what kind of parrots you have, but my guess is they will be thrilled to have a new addition to the flock. Congratulations, I’m so happy for you. Feel free to write with any specific questions you have. Best, B.D. Julyan

One last thing…I’ve heard, over the years, that you simply need to let parrots know what is going on. Let them know before the birth, that the girls are coming, and introduce the baby girls when they arrive. Tell them you need their help…make them apart of what’s changing. They are smart enough to know, (even if they don’t always like it), an adjustment is needed. When we knew our cat Moe was dying, I let the birds say goodbye. Particularly Zeke, because Moe was his cat. I explained what was happening and I know he understood because he’s since stopped calling for her.
